According to the information provided by Statista, pharmacy and self-care on-line product sales will increase its share by 47,7% in the following 5 years. This growth will reach 1.420,17 million dollars by 2020 in contrast to 960 million dollars of 2014.

Taking into account the period when the research was made (2014-2020), the major growth was registered in 2015. Following Statista information, it was a 9,4%, and for the rest of the economic sector it was only a 6%.

 

This numbers are presented in the “consumer establishment preferences” published in 2015 by Nielsen which indicates that three of every four online demanded products were self-care and domestic products.

 

This could be a huge opportunity for all of those cosmetic companies which have short and long term growth expectations. In this sense, the e-commerce could be seen as a new platform in which they could distribute its products.

 

Analyzing each country, those having major on-line annual expenses in pharmacy and self-care products would be USA (25. 398,7 million dollars), followed by China (17. 810,9 million dollars) and the United Kingdom (4. 162,2 million dollars).

 

Despite the increase this sector achieved and the one will be achieved on the following years, it is necessary to highlight that it is far from reaching the successful numbers obtained by other sectors such as fashion (60%) or travel industry (80%).
